We, the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy, are pleased and honored that our chairperson, Hkun Htun Oo, will be awarded the Democracy Award by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) in Washington D.C. We appreciate that this award is to acknowledge our chair's long fight for all ethnic nationalities to obtain democracy, equality, self-determination and a genuine federal union in Burma.

We affirm the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy's commitment to democracy, equality, self determination and a genuine federal union in Burma, and our determination to seek a political solution to the problems that we face.

On his trip to the United States, Hkun Htun Oo has been invited by President Thein Sein to join the Burma delegation to the Un General Assembly in New York Hkun Htun Oo has accepted the invitation to acknowledge President Thein Sein's democratic reform and encourage him to go further. We want to strengthen the President Thein Sein's commitment to democratize decentralize by supporting the peace process, in order to bring change and genuine federal union in our country.

We, the SNLD, are willing to cooperate with not only the President and his government, but also with any other groups fighting for democracy and peace for the better future of Burma.
