Commentary on “U Win Htein: 'Godfather' of the NLD”
Thank you for this insightful and useful short portrait of U Win Htein Ko Nyan Hlaing Lynn.
Lately, in an interview, he praised the late U Ko Ni for his service to the country and NLD as a valuable legal brain and added that he was a "hard-liner", where constitutional crisis is concerned; for he, together with the deceased U Win Tin, founder of the NLD and famous journalist with unmatched high moral ethics, were for total rewriting of the constitution than just amendments of the military-drafted constitution.
This is in a way buttressing and confirming the NLD's political posture of opting for the for the evolutionary-like approach, rather than the immediate constitutional amendment of its election manifesto, which basically means to let the two-tier system of governance continues: the military taking care of the ethnic issues and peace negotiation process; and the NLD regime taking unimportant ceremonial job as government administrator.
A correct assessment and a tribute to U Ko Ni that has to be taken into account for U Win Htein's appropriate remark, so to speak.
