'Stories from Myanmar': Films from Yangon Film School, 13 and 17 September, 7 p.m. @ Documentary Arts Asia
Join us for two special free presentations of films by young Burmese filmmakers at Documentary Arts Asia in Chiang Mai. The first presentation will focus on an eclectic mix of short documentary films, and will be held this coming Thursday, 13 September at 7 p.m. Then, the following Monday, 17 September, we will highlight a selection of short dramatic films.
Yangon Film School (YFS) is a non-profit media organization that aims to inspire and cultivate a diverse media culture in Burma by training a creative young workforce. Stymied by the lack of further education opportunities – there are no film schools in Burma – as well as other constraints, many creative young people inside the country are crying out for inspiration and encouragement to develop their artistic skills. These talented people are also keen to support changes that are taking place in their country at a grassroots level.
Since being founded in 2005, YFS has trained more than 50 aspiring filmmakers. An increasing number of YFS-supported productions are being screened at international film festivals, and a few have even won awards. The Best Friend and Documentary Arts Asia are proud to be able to share some of the most fascinating, unique, and thought-provoking YFS films with our members in Chiang Mai.
Documentary Arts Asia is located at 12/7 Wualai Road, Soi 13. Check out our Facebook Event page for a map to the center.
