The main strategy of the Burmese regimes over the past 50 years
Judging from the endless wars fought by the Bama nationalists, or those who identify themselves as such, against the country's minority communities - for the control of land, above and under-ground resources, population/labor, and trade, pipelines and military routes - the Union of the Republic of Myanmar is nothing more than a tinpot, imperialist political economy. Burma's military poses no threat to neighbor - but only to the country's own multiethnic people. It needs to make sure the peoples of different religious faiths, ethnic and class backgrounds remain engaged in endless racist battles with one another. This is classic divide and rule.
That's why, the regime pursues ceasefires with the Karens and Karenni while attempting to decimate the Kachin and Shan resistance groups. They now "love and defend" the Buddhist Rakhine while shooting the Muslim Rohingyas. Before the authorities in Western Burma were milking the Rohingyas turning official restrictions on the latter into sources for extortion making the Rakhines feel the Bama authorities were favoring the Rohingyas over the Buddhists.
This endless game of divide and rule is integral to the generals' colonization of multiethnic peoples.
The strategy to counter this effectively is not to stay without our religious and ethnic affinity group - but to rise above our religious and ethnic differences.
Therefore humanism is both an ideal and a strategic necessity.
(Who really cares what God or non-God we individuals and communities worship or what ethnic "DNA" we are made up of, in the larger scheme of things, like cosmos or universe? If a meteorite hits this place called Earth, we would all be wiped out like creatures that came before us anyway.)
