First flag hoisted on the highest mountain in Shan State
CHIANG MAI. Over 200 Shan youth climbed up Loi Leng, the highest mountain in Shan State,on February 7th Shan State National Day.
Sai Hseng Mong, spokesperson of the Tai Youth Network said early on February 7, “Together about 250 people, including Shan youth from northern Shan State, and monks who were guides, have reached Loi Leng to mark Shan State National Day.”
According to Sai Hseng Mong, the objectives of climbing the highest mountain in Shan State are to encourage youth to value natural resources, oppose drugs and love their homeland.
“We’ll hoist the Shan State national flag and pray for genuine peace to prevail in Shan State,” said Sai Hseng Mong.
Loi Leng, the highest mountain in Shan State, is situated in Mongyai township, northern Shan State. The height is about 8,780 feet above sea-level.
