Unification of Shan parties: SNDP forms working committee



 
The Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP) has formed a working committee to forge unification with other Shan parties in Tachilek since January 2013. Nevertheless, it has not been active according to a parliamentary member from SNDP.

At the meeting on 2 April, Chairman Sai Ai Pao said SNDP was ready to unite with all 7 to 10 ethnic brother parties for a common goal. Sai Moe Kyi, State Assembly member of Mong Pan asked: Since there are only 2 or 3 Shan parties, why don’t they unite first? Sai Maung Tin, an SNDP People’s Assembly member of Laikha was asked by Sai Ai Pao, “I have already assigned the duty to the committee. Why haven’t you done anything?” Sai Tin responded by saying “We were assigned the duty, but not given instructions.”

At Tachileik meeting in January, a five member committee was formed for unification of two Shan political parties: Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP) and Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD). Sai Hsawng Hsi deputy chairman of SNDP was appointed chairman,” according to Sai Win Myat Oo, State Assembly member from SNDP for Mongton township.

Other members of the 5-member committee are Sai Maung Tin, Sao Yun Peng, Sai Pang (State Assembly member of Mong Keung) and Sai Kyaw Zaw Than, National Assembly member, said Sai Win Myat Oo.

“Related to this matter, another meeting will be called for further discussion,” he added.
