Dear colleagues:

Hope you are all well. Greetings from Naypyidaw.

The Labour Attache to Myanmar Embassy Bangkok, U Kyaw Kyaw Linn, asked to disseminate info on a 'Press Conference by the Myanmar Deputy Labour Minister U Myint Thein on Saturday 9th Feb 2013 3pm, Myanmar Embassy Bangkok.'

This press conference will apparently report on the ongoing process of the Thai/Myanmar Government to issue temporary passports to an estimated 1.3 million undocumented migrant workers from Myanmar in Thailand (as well as their children/dependents) at 11 one stop service centers across Thailand.

U Myint Thein has been touring Thailand since 4th February 2013 to prepare for the opening of the 11 one stop passport issuing centers on 15th February 2013 but the process of employer/worker registration and preparation began since December 2012 and will end in March 2013. The process of issuing passports is expected to continue until April or May 2013 (around 120 days in total, according to reports).

For more information on this registration process see the attached simple summary documents in Myanmar, English and Thai language explaining the process and key issues.
