Ex-VP’s Shan friend takes leave



Sao Ood Kehsi, 65, who had been ex-Vice President Tin Aung Myint Oo’s classmate in Taunggyi, passed away last night in Taunggyi at 21:30, according to sources there.

Sao Ood was serving as a legal officer for the Restoration Council of Shan State / Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) when he died. He is survived by his wife and 2 children.

He was born on 19 July 1947, Martyrs Day, in Kehsi, where his father Sao Zing was heir apparent to the Kehsi princely throne. His mother Sao Kyi was the younger sister to the late fighting prince of Nawngmawn Sao Htun Yin, who was honored with “Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE), in recognition of gallant and distinguished services” in 1946.

He joined the resistance in 1995 and had served as Chief of Foreign Affairs and later Chief of Alliance Affairs.

He was the second non-Burman representatives, after the better known David Taw of Karen National Union (KNU), to pass away while working on the ongoing peace process inside government controlled areas.

His funeral is today.
