Yawd Serk visits Sao Sai Leun after meeting with government
The leader of Restoration Council of Shan State / Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) Lt-Gen Yawd Serk met Sao Sai Leun, the leader of National Democratic Alliance Army (NDAA), also well known as Mongla group, for the first time at NDAA main headquarters in Mongla, Shan State East.
The RCSS/SSA leader travelled to Mongla on 20 May after signing a new agreement with Naypyitaw’s peace negotiators in Kengtung. Mongla, a town at China border is situated 80 km northeast of Kengtung.
“The visit is just for good relationship, there is nothing special discussed at the meeting,” reported Khuensai Jaiyen, editor of Shan Herald Agency for News (SHAN) who is traveling along with Yawd Serk.
RCSS/SSA leader also aimed to observe the development of Mongla since it has made a ceasefire agreement with Burma former military government in 1989.
“Col Aung Thu, Shan State Security and Border Affairs minister took us to Mongla”, said SHAN reporter Arntai who is following the RCSS/SSA peace negotiating team for reporting.
Lt-Gen Yawd Serk and his followers stayed in Mongla overnight. He met NDAA top leaders such as Sao Sai Leun, Hsan Per, Sao Hsang Lu and Sai Hseng Lar. After the meeting Yawd Serk was shown around Mongla town to observe its development, Arntai reported.
